Hands-on manual therapy is at the heart of care at Advanced Rehabilitation Center. Our clinic is led by Thomas Nosarzewski, PT, MSPT, DMT, a physical therapist with advanced training in manual therapy, including Fascial Counterstrain. Patients across Crossville and Cumberland County come to us when they want skilled, one-on-one hands-on treatment.
What is manual therapy?
Manual therapy is a set of skilled hands-on techniques a physical therapist uses to treat joints, muscles and other soft tissues. The goals are to reduce pain, improve motion and help you move better. We always pair it with exercise so the gains last.
Techniques we use
- Joint mobilization: gentle, controlled movements that help stiff joints move freely.
- Soft tissue mobilization and myofascial release: targeted pressure to ease tight muscles and fascia.
- Fascial Counterstrain and positional release: very gentle techniques that place the body in comfortable positions so irritated tissue can relax.
- Muscle energy techniques: gentle muscle contractions to improve joint position and motion.
What manual therapy can help
- Back and neck pain
- Shoulder pain and stiffness
- Some headaches that start in the neck
- Stiffness after surgery
- Arthritis and joint pain
Frequently asked questions
Does manual therapy hurt?
It should not be painful. Some techniques feel like firm pressure; many are very gentle. Mild soreness for a day or two afterward is common.
How is this different from massage or chiropractic care?
Manual therapy in physical therapy uses a wide range of joint and soft tissue techniques chosen from a full movement evaluation, and it is always paired with an exercise plan built around your goals.
